The Mission & Objective of Your Security Department
Mission
The mission of the KAUST Security Department is to create and maintain a safe and secure living, working and learning environment for all persons invited to come upon the premises so as to facilitate the successful fulfillment of the core mission and purpose of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology.
Objective
The objective of the KAUST Security Department is to prevent - or to minimize¹ to the extent reasonable and practical – any loss to people, property and any other assets² both tangible and intangible, including reputation, that may result from the intentional³ actions of any person.
The Men & Women Of Your Security Department
The KAUST Security Department is comprised of more than 250 well trained, fully equipped and highly motivated professionals all dedicated to protecting and serving the people of KAUST.
These men and women are in turn closely supported by full-time contingents from the National Guard, the Coast Guard and the Navy all based immediately outside our perimeter and surrounding KAUST boundaries on all sides. Among our many assigned duties is the enforcement of Security Rules & Regulations for the benefit of all members of the KAUST community.

Strategic Use Of The Latest Security Technology
The KAUST Security Department continuously evaluates, selects and deploys modern, state-of-the-art protective systems, devices and technology. We operate one of the largest and most sophisticated electronic protection systems of its kind. Our technology serves as a “force multiplier” allowing KAUST’s security team to function like a staff more than 3 times our actual manpower numbers
As you might expect from a university focused on “science & technology”, the acquisition of smart, remotely operated airborne drones, unmanned land patrol surveillance vehicles and semi-autonomous security robots are among the more visible examples. There are many other examples that you are never likely to see.
We continue to seek out more ways to make interacting with us as convenient and efficient as possible. Maximizing the use of “on-line” processes in place of paper forms, minimizing in-person visits to – and wait time at – our security service centers, and employing “self-service” kiosks are just a few of the methods we use to make your time at KAUST as pleasant as it can be. Our unmanned land-based patrol vehicles and robots are “interactive” allowing you to talk directly with our security control center staff

Professionally Trained & Internationally Certified
We maintain a full-time professional security training unit supplemented by outside professional courses of instruction from around the world. All uniformed officers (and K9 dogs too!) receive initial and frequent in-service training to keep our knowledge, skills and abilities at peak levels.
Our Security Training Unit is fully ACCREDITED and all officers are internationally certified to Highfields (UK) standards. After more than a month of classroom training, new recruits spend at least 3 months receiving on-the-job (OJT) training by our group of qualified Field Training Officers (FTO).
